Time to Pack - It’s Moving Time!

Ever since the start of the Coronavirus Pandemic, there has been an immense amount of individuals starting new home projects, but there has also been a wave of homebuyers which has caused an increase in home prices of 9% and a decrease in home inventory by nearly 30%!  So, since there have been so many people planning for a move, we should provide some information that will help prevent stress while in the moving process.

Research, Research, and More Research!

You can never be overly prepared, so do your research before loading up the moving truck! Make sure to search all of the information that is needed for a possible moving truck! All interstate movers are required to be licensed and registered with the US Department of Transportation’s Federal Motor Carrier Safety Administration. It is also a good idea to review any complaints on movers! The Better Business Bureau should have this information, as they track and keep most complaints. Aside from your research, be sure to get an estimate of what you will be spending. You wouldn’t want to spend twice as much for a poorly rated mover, right? You may also want to be sure that they have insurance! By federal law, interstate movers are required to offer liability coverage for any damage to your property at no cost. You are trusting these individuals with your belongings. You do not want to get into a situation where your possessions are harmed, and you have no control over what happens. You may find it easier to write down three to five of your favorite movers, then decide based on the items we have discussed. You want to be 100% sure that your stuff is in good hands!

It’s Time to Make Some New Memories!

Whether you are a first-time buyer or have bought houses before, there will always be room for some new memories! Most of the buying population right now are first-time buyers. The main reason for this is based on the economic status we are all in at the moment. Younger adults and couples are taking advantage of the lower interest rates to buy their first home because of the upcharge of rent. In the state of Tennessee, rent has increased 5-7% which has pushed many individuals to purchase their first home. So, for these adults it is safe to assume that this home purchase will be one to make their very first memories! Another huge portion of homebuyers right now are those looking for their forever home! In this case, it can be nearly impossible to pack up every sentimental item. Moving can be a wonderful opportunity to purge some items you don’t need or will not use in the future. While moving, it is much better to be less cluttered!

Staying organized during a move is the most important item to follow to prevent yourself from getting stressed. By practicing organization, it may give you a chance to be more nostalgic while packing. If you are looking to save some memories, take some pictures of the rooms before packing them up. By starting early, you will have time to go through items that may hold more of a sentimental value to you. It will also save you some nervous last-minute packing! Last minute packing can make moving more stressful than it needs to be. Try and put together boxes to open first. With a new home, you may need a few items on hand including tools or cleaning supplies! One other item you may want to organize is the help! If you are moving to a location that is close to your old home, get some friends and family to help with unloading and unpacking! I’m sure you would want to show off your new home, and it will help with the transition to see that loved ones aren’t too far away!

Overall, moving causes everyone to be stressed, but do we have to be held at our maximum stress level? The simple answer is no. Follow these simple steps, and relax! Take a breath, do some yoga poses, and stay at ease with your next move!
